A Neverending Story ? (2020, 2021, 2022)
Miguel Keerveld
This work was made during the height of the economic crisis in Suriname and in the COVID-19 era. A Never-Ending Story? is a work that relates to art workshops with children and teenagers in Suriname and encounters with artists in residency in Brazil, Mexico, and Peru.
The process relates to COUP 22. This production ritual, in which objects are produced in sets of 22 and are related to the tarot spell, refers to the invisible dialogue of this installation. COUP 22 is a multiple territorial and complex system. It is inspired by the 22 main cards of the tarot that indicate a ‘secret’: The Great Arcana. A reflective space in which artists, co-producers, and spectators meet and that relates to the virtual, the symbolic, and the imaginary. Some of the objects of volume 1 have a relationship with Suriname. The other part refers to political violence in the Americas.
